Listeners' Guide

Welcome to Arkham Radio!

Arkham Radio broadcasts over the internet in 64kb/s MP3Pro for the highest quality audio at the lowest bandwidth. You will need a broadband connection to listen. If you don't have a broadband connection, we still invite you to take part in the forums, read the news, and enjoy the website! Also, you can go to Live365 and find many other fine stations that broadcast at a lower bitrate that can be heard over dialup connections.

We use Live365 as our streaming provider. Listening is free, but Live365 will require you to signup. The reason isn't to spam you - they don't do that. The reason is for ad demographics. Our streaming fees are made affordable because Live365 sells audio and graphic ad space based on demographics. They are good people, and do not spam.

Another reason we went with Live365 is that the artists aren't ripped off. Live365 reports and pay royalties through ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC, so rest assured the artists you love are being treated fairly. That is important to us.

Finally, once you are signed up to Live365, there are literally thousands of stations to listen to from talk radio, to metal, to classical, etc. So don't be afraid of making a logon there. I personally hate signing up for things, but this one is worth it and they won't spam. If you have any problems, just PM me, Sleeping In Rlyeh, and I'll help you out. Note that you do NOT have to sign up on our website to listen - you just have to sign up on Live365. The login for the website and the audio stream are two different things.

To get the best audio quality, you need an MP3Pro (not just regular MP3) player. You can listen with a normal MP3 player just fine, but you won't have the full dynamic range of sound. It's worth it. Again, trust me on this.

You have several choices for an MP3Pro player:

Live365 is free, but you have the option of becoming a subscription member for a few dollars a month. If you choose this route, you get to listen ad-free, you get a desktop player, and it works with MP3Pro.

If the ads don't bother you, you can find a stand-alone MP3 player that supports MP3Pro. I have found the two best to be WinAmp and JetAudio.

Both are free, but JetAudio sells an enhanced version with more features. JetAudio is my personal choice, but either will work fine. If you go the WinAmp route, you will need to download the MP3Pro plug-in from the WinAmp site in addition to the WinAmp player. You can find the MP3Pro plug-in for WinAmp here.

Then you're all set. Just click "Listen To Arkham Radio" and you can log in or sign up on Live365. Pick stand-alone MP3 player as your player if you went the WinAmp or JetAudio route - if you're passing on the MP3Pro, you can use the free web-based Live365 player or select "stand alone" to use your favorite MP3 player.

If there are any questions or you need some assistance, don't hesitate to send me a private message on the site (Sleeping In Rlyeh) or email me: "listening at arkhamradio dot com" (spam-bot protected; you know what to do).

We hope you enjoy the audio and the website! Stay Scared!
